Weaknesses: Draft 5 plus another poem

Sunday, September 27, 2009, 10:50 PM MST [General]

I realize I haven't blogged in a few months. I've just been so busy with life in general I haven't really found the time. I guess I have the time now so I thought I see what kind of feedback I could get for my new draft of Weaknesses and see what you thought of another poem I recently wrote. As always any feedback is appreciated and I will try to return the favor.

    Weaknesses

No longer will I let the barrier of fear obstruct my path.

No longer will I let the trap of lust ensnare me.

No longer will I let the manacles of sloth enslave me.

I am strong through the influence of god

and like the oxen I will overcome the yoke that holds me back.

I will no longer let the shackles of fear bind me.

I will break down the barriers

    my fear has created.

I will no longer let the trap of lust ensnare me.

If I do the fire of my desire will consume me,

I will no longer let the manacles of sloth enslave me.
It is only through hard work that my true

    potential can be consummated.

No longer will I be secured in this cage of my own weaknesses.

    My demons are defeatable and

no longer will they ransack the castle that is my character.

No longer will I be fenced in by the barrier of fear.

No longer will I fall in the pit of lust.

No longer will I be bound by the manacles of sloth.

    The Dragon's sorrow

    The dragon

    is not a foul beast.

    Majestic is he,

    meandering through the sky.

Icy eyes stare at the world below. He

    longs for

love, yet he is denied it. Still

    enthusiastic, he

    roars.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any feedback.

    Around the Late Night Campfire

Wednesday, July 15, 2009, 02:29 PM MST [General]

I realize I haven't posted a blog post in a while. I've just been busy in the whirlwind of life and haven't been writing that much lately.  Anyways, I just posted a poem on the PoetryAsides site and decided I might as well post it on my blog as well to try in see what kind of feedback I can get. Here's my lastest poem: Around the Late Night Campfire.

    Around the Late Night Campfire

    My eyes sparkle

with the light from the dwindling fire.

    The fire has become nothing

but a pile of glowing ash.

Still I sit, sharing this starry night

with Stephanie, Rob, Aaron, and my uncle Duane.

Everyone else has gone to bed.

    We are the stragglers,

    gathered around the dying fire.

This has become my favorite part of camping

above all other things, such as swimming and having s'mores.

I am content to just sitting around the fire, chatting and laughing

with these 4 who I have become connected to by the glow and warmth of the fire.

Rob pulls out a pack of cigars

which he had bought at the gas station

    as we left Lolo.

Rob and Stephanie pass the cigars around

    Uncle Duane refuses his

and Aaron is not able to have one since he is underage

and Uncle Duane says he can't have one.

I take a cigar, proud of that fact I am 18 and can have one.

It is my first cigar and I take Rob's lighter, lighting it and sucking in some sweet cigar smoke.

I exhale the smoke and take another puff which I then exhale too.

There we sit as the night matures and the fire dies out.

We forget the events of the day and just enjoy the crisp night air and the uniting fire.

I hope you enjoyed reading this poem and as always any feedback is appreciated. I hope to write more frequently in my blog in the future, but I can't make any promises.

    Until Next Time,

    Tim

How can you love "Final Countdown" by Europe and NOT have Hotrod as one of you favorite movies? Every time I have a bad day I watch the punch-dance scene from that movie, it never fails to make me laugh.
