word count for childern's book

Hello, I am currently writing a chapter book series for boys (5-8). My book could be a Hi-Lo for boys a bit older or a "read to' for the younger boys. I'd like to get an idea of how long it should be. Could someone help me with a target word count? thank you, tom |

Hello Tom, Don't know if anyone has gotten back to you with word counts. Easy-to-reads (ages 5-8 earlier readers) are generally 10-64 pages. I haven't found any actual word counts. First chapter books (ages7-10) run around 10 or 11 chapters about 8-10 pages each. Good luck with your writing. Cheryl Carpinello |
