Obviously by the title I have been trying to get my novel Half Dusk: Cain published. I have gone through quite a few literary agents who really dont know what to do with my story and therefore have turned me down.

On the other hand I posted my first chapter on another fiction website in July of 2008 and until February 17, 2009 I had received 4,900 views on this chapter. On February 17, 2009 I posted the second chapter of Half Dusk: Cain and in a twenty four hour period I received 1,300 views on chapter two plus an additional 700 views to chapter one. I actually now have a fanbase that await my next chapters.

I think that's pretty impressive and I also think (after a few revisions) that I now have a good query.

Is it the economy and Literary Agents don't want to go out on a limb to represent a different type of story or should I just bypass Literary Agents and go straight to a publisher? But if I do that I won't get a decent advance. So I'm in sort of a pickle.

I read your (hopefully soon to be future) dust-jacket synopsis over on the other thread.  Your novel sounds very interesting, but maybe one of the problems with it is that it's cross-genre, and publishers don't know what to do with it.  It might be too  horroresque for the Sci-Fi publishers and too sci-fi for the Horror publishers.  On the upside, you'd think anything with vampires in it would have an automatic leg up.

What state is your manuscript in?  If it's finished and polished, you may want to start working on something new.  You don't want to rest all your dreams on one thing, right?  Publishers may be more inclined to publish Half Dusk after you've got a proven track record.  You could be sneaky and write about the events that led to the vampires taking to the stars, which wouldn't be cross-genre until rocket ships start showing up.  Maybe you could even squeeze a trilogy out of it.
