I get my best inspiratin sitting at home at my dining table with my feet propped up and children running amuck around me. Crazy isn't it but I suppose to each his own. I can write a few chapters a day doing that. lol What's ya'lls favorite or most comfortable place to write? |

Hey. I like to write in my bedroom, by the window, sitting on the floor. I use a desk/tray that was intended for the bed. Keeping all my writing stuff...notes, dictionary, etc....in one place is like "anchoring" it and that really helps me to stay focused. |

I have recently found that I'm writing my best in the recliner in the living room. The words falls from my fingertips when the candle is lit on the end-table and my fleece blanket guards my legs from the heat of the laptop. I had been feeling sort of stifled writing at my desk. I sat in the recliner the other day and my story took off! I guess sometimes you just have to view it from a different chair. |

I sit at the breakfast table. I can see the TV in the living room, which I keep on a cable news channel. And, I'm only 3 steps from the patio doors, so I can venture out side to clear the fog from my eyes. Go figure. But it works for me. |

I kind of move around the house depending on my mood. I have a home office but it's rather boring in there and I feel cut off from the rest of the house. Maybe if I feng shui it? Right now, I'm sitting at my dining room tabe since that's the closest to my tea kettle... I hate walking from one end of the house to the other every time I need another cuppa. |

I stole my wife's home office and use it very early in the morning (02:00 to 05:00) for total peace and quiet. I've also sat in a Humvee in a 44,000-acre training area with a notebook computer plugged into a cigarette lighter to finish one of my past nonfiction works, too (ear plugs firmly inserted while typing, of course). :-) |

I'm with Casey. I almost always sit in my living room with my feet propped up on the ottoman, covered with a blanket (particularly the feet). I could probably write anywhere as long as I am comfortable, and there isn't a lot of distracting noises. Strangely, music can put me in a certain mood or mindset for writing, but I cannot be in public with people talking. I cannot concentrate on anything with conversations around me. Also, I sometimes find it helpful to have a glass of wine. It helps me unwind and forget about work! |

Yeah, the music thing is interesting. I come up with some of my most powerful writing with headphones on. One Republic puts me in another world for some reason: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePyRrb2-fzs (I keep running into cool dudes from Oklahoma; didn't know Ryan Tedder was from my old heimat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Tedder). |

Agreed. Music not only puts me in the mood, but it also sets up a sense of white noise in the background, drowning out a lot of other distractions. It is, as someone else mentioned, my anchor. |

For me, I need some background noise to take the place of a white noise machine. I have an office but I rarely use it as it is in transition right now. I had my office in another room and when one of our kids moved out, I decided I wanted their bedroom for this function. I am resisting setting it up as I am thinking of painting it but still not sure. If I'm not in my office, I'm usually at either the dining room table or in the den sitting on the couch. |
