Oh good gracious - now you made me laugh. How do I put things aside? That is pretty funny. If there is something I want to do, I just do it. I don't care if the world is crashing down around me. And with 6 cats, that is often what is happening.

My desk is always a disaster. In fact, my house is usually a disaster. My kids got to the point when they saw me cleaning, they would ask, "Who is coming over?"

My son is a neatnik and that cracks me up. He and I are so much alike, except for that. Perhaps that is his way of rebelling. He always yells at me about why I don't vacuum more. I just laugh at him. If cat hair offended me, I'd have had my nervous breakdown already.

My mother is a nut and we don't talk - long story -- hmm, another book there -- and my father died about 5 years ago. I really related to your comment that it is all about the father. That is so true. There is just something about little girls and their daddys, no matter what stage of life.

Hidly, I've inspired you? How cool is that?!

Thanks for the kind words. I haven't been to a library in years. It seems every time I walked into one in the past 20 years, it was as a reporter. But, I have been talking to myself about spending the day just hangin' out there. Since I live in a new town, it is like a clean slate -- no reporter baggage. I will look for that book you recommended, just as soon as I finish the trashy romance novel. It is getting pretty good, actually.

I bet I'd love your grandparents. Have you written about them yet?

I don't believe I've thanked you yet for your last post re: my website. I'm sorry. I do appreciate the compliment and feel free to procrastinate at my place anytime. Let me know and I'll join you. I'm always up for a good group procrastination.

You're not the first person I've heard that from, hidly. But remember that one of the strengths that you now have from working at a daily is the ability to provide good copy quickly, something that will definitely help you in this market! Best wishes.

Hi, Hidly--I think we all have the dream of just getting to be cozy while we write. It's a wonderful day when we get to just curl up with our projects!

Glad you like the site--thanks for stopping by.

    Hidly:

Thank you so much for the compliment. I'm trying to do a daily column, so I very much appreciate your words of encuragement. I'd have responded sooner, but I'm new here and still figuring out how things work. I look forward to reading some of your things.

Thanks hidly. What can I say? Some people would say, it's just a dog - but to us, this is like losing a beloved family member. We have always let our animals have the run of the place. Now that we moved far from ur kids, the critters are the kids.

You are right - nothing is perfect. All you can do is the best you can. You will make mistakes - we all do.

Journalism is stressful. And it is time for fun. Here's to us. May we both find the happy balance. You with your family and career - and I with my dashing in and out of the comfort zone.

Thanks for commenting. I have, for the most part, loved being a journalist. I was actually cut out for it. I have never sought or received adequate monitary rewards from the profession. But, the other rewards ... too numerous to mention.

I related to your desire to stay-at-home with your kids. I found it to be a struggle to stay at home with my kids, but I couldn't imagine anyone else enjoying the day-to-day changes in their lives. I applaud you for this difficult decision.

Ah yes, dogs, jammies, and writing. These are some of my favorite things. Sounds like a beautiful friendship.
