    More Research

Thursday, September 10, 2009, 08:28 AM EST [General]

I've been researching agents that accept picture books, and have discovered that so far, there are not that many. And some of the ones that do aren't currently accepting submissions for them (overload, I'm guessing). This is mildly disconcerting.

Now, I have not exhausted research materials by any means. I have yet to go and pull the physical copy of the children's market bible off a shelf at the local Borders and scour it, and I have not reached the end of the literary internet. I just noticed an interesting pattern.

Also: if an agent accepts picture/children's books, but not fantasy works, can I still submit my picture book fairy-tale?

I think its a little silly if requirements are mutually exclusive, but what the agent wants, the agent gets. I suppose its a question I would have to ask the agent, but if anyone has some input, that would be great!

    Agent searches

Tuesday, September 8, 2009, 09:46 AM EST [General]

Writer's Market has provided us with an excellent search engine for finding publishers and agents. I've found lots of great information on here. However, I've noticed that the search engine's capability for really specific searches is not so great. That's not to say it isn't helpful--on the contrary, it is quite helpful 95% of the time--but that extra 5% when I need to get down to the nitty gritty is still tricky.

I don't know how many have experienced that sort of dilemma, but I've discovered a nice site for more advanced and specific searches for finding agents that represent what you have to offer: www.agentquery.com

Of course, having access to multiple resources is always key for writers. I hope you all may find this helpful.
