    New site/ Key Publications

Saturday, October 17, 2009, 06:50 PM EST [General]

I think it was on Writer's Market that someone mentioned Viciouswriters.com, and keypublications.  I have to say, i joined the social page for keypublications, and it is awesome.  Since joining, i have had so much feedback on my novel, and great people to talk to; that i am over excited!

As writers we love to chat about our characters, and get feedback.  There seems to be plenty on that site.  If you would like more input.. sign up!

So, if anyone wants to join:   key-publications-network.socialgo.com  check it out.

I really love that people there make you feel like you were the "key" element missing from their friends list.

    Temporary insanity

Monday, October 12, 2009, 07:13 PM EST [General]

I think i have temporary writing insanity!

So many days go by lately where i feel the need to write, and life keeps stopping me.  I changed my hours at work to a 5:30 am to 2:30pm schedule.  I thought this would give me more time in the evenings with my children.  I love it.  My only issue now is, there is always someone around when i want to write.

Sometimes, i need solitude.  I was thinking that maybe sitting in the bathtub (without water people), and the laptop would be the best place to hide.  But alas, they come knocking on that door too!  :)

For now, i guess i will just have to concentrate on a few paragraphs a day- after the kids homework is done.  I'd rather leave the bathtub for soaking!

I did find that authors den is offering a special for it's members on self publishing through lulu.com.  If anyone is interested check out authorsden.com for more info.  Please be wary though, as self publishing means....no agent, and YOU market your book.

The publishing company who requested my manuscript will probably give me some type of response between mid November or December.  The publisher is quick to reply to my emails.  This means to me, they really do keep up with their potential clients.

So friends, as soon as i know something, i will let you know.

    Happy Writing!

    Surprise contact

Sunday, September 20, 2009, 09:48 AM EST [General]

In a previous blog i had noted that i was a member of pitchtopia.org, thanks to a friend on Writers Market who tipped me off to it.

One of my friends on pitchtopia works for a publishing company, she had seen my pitch and asked me to consider sending it to her company.  I sent it a few days ago, awaiting the average response time of 30-90 days per the automatic generated response email i received.

Little did i know, the following afternoon, my inbox had a request for the full manuscript, and the person that had asked me to send it to the company, was the owner of the publishing company, as well as their lead editor.

How exciting!  You never know when you make a contact..what to expect.  With that said, I am very excited that i was able to send it on it's way to the company.  I am interested in what they will have to say.  I wish all of you luck on your projects as well.  I will keep you updated with any progress.

Queries that take forever for response

Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 01:25 PM EST [General]

After querying around 60 literary agents.. I still wait for most of them to respond.  One agent had requested more of my manuscript.  After some research i found that their average read time is at least two months.

I have received rejections from some, I knew I would.  That really didn't bother me.  No one as of yet has depicted my work as anything negative, only that they are either full with projects or, don't wish to represent at this time.  It's all good though, because it has also been a learning process.

I submitted to another agency today who had an employee that is a member of Pitchtopia.org.  She wanted me to consider a submission to their company.  Their average time is 30-90 days.

I certainly hope something comes through.  I'm left to wonder, is this normal that most take a very long time to review?

Keeping at it is the only thing i can do..meanwhile.. the second novel is still in the works..and i started a seperate novel (not vampire related)..that has kept me very intrigued.

At the end of the day, i still feel the satisfaction of knowing i have created something, and feel successful even without a "yes," as an immediate response.

    My daughter is growing up

Saturday, September 5, 2009, 09:13 PM EST [General]

To all my fellow Writers Market peeps, I'm freaking out!  Normally, I only loose it when I've had enough of something.. but today, i still feel the need to sob like a baby.  My daughter announced last week it was time to get her learners permit!

Today, we drove to the DMV in a neighboring town to have her take the test.  Of course she passed -(she's a smartie!)  This evening she decided that she wanted to drive my KIA Sorento.  Now hear this..  She scared me a little!

She gets into the drivers seat and starts out our driveway (after belting in and checking her mirrors and such), as i tell her to use the break (a little), we stop dead and the rocks crunch loudly underneath the tires, as our bodies lunge forward.  My husbands standing on the front porch smiling ear to ear, my heart is beating wildly.  I then begin to wonder, when we get out onto the pavement, is she going to kill us both? Thankfully, that didn't happen, and she was more afraid than i was.

I tried to keep my hand near the steering wheel at her lap, as she holds the wheel tightly winding her fingers around it in an unbreakable death grip.  I steered her away from the edge a few times and back into our lane when needed, forcing against her unbreakable hold.

We go to clean the church and when we are done.. she wants to drive home IN THE DARK!   Enter two cars and the high beam headlights- which i tell her to dim; as she hits the switch and turns on her turn signal accidentally, smacking it again with her hands since we are not turning anywhere, as i lean in to steer-because she is not watching where we are going.

We arrive home and she tries to turn into my usual parking spot in the driveway, smacking the gas and spinning tires.

OH MY LORD!  I thought we might hit the house.  She's then all calm, cool and collected and giggling that she did it; and i want to cry.  I just gave my fifteen year old daughter her key to "grown-up hood".  I don't freakin' like it one bit!

I'm wondering, my fellow friends- if this type of panic could show up in one of my characters very, very soon!

Am I the only one who feels like she is loosing someone slowly, fearing for lives, and hoping the next time..she can hold the wheel on her own without my help?

You thought this would all be about writing didn't you?  Sorry.. this time it's real life creeping in.
