| Description: | One of the big rules repeated over and over again for writers is that we should read, whether that's being familiar with a magazine or journal to which we are submitting or just learning from other masters of our craft, or simply for enjoyment. I keep looking at the photograph of Marilyn Monroe reading Ulysses sitting on my desk; reportedly, she loved the book and read it out loud, but struggled with understanding it. She's not alone; just ask any English major. Sometimes, in the quest to write and get published, it's easy to forget that reading is not only something for fun, but also a vital part of our process. And seeing what some of our agents and editors read is a great way of getting to know what they're looking for. So, what are you reading? |
