My friends at the college where I teach writing are putting together a literary magazine and they asked for submissions. I think I have a poem to offer. Meantime, I submitted several photos. It was fun converting color photos to black and white to see what would look good. Here's one. I got the poem typed up this afternoon. So now I did something today.

[General]
I got an editing job today. Should keep me busy for a few hours. It came through an agency that does editing work for academic writers. I did some work for them in the summer and then things slowed down, and now there is work again. Good news!
Well, I thought if I was going to use my real picture I shouldn't use my real name. I used terracottacat because I like how it sounds and because my mother has a terra cotta cat that her mother made years and years ago. Also my old cat is kinda sorta almost terra cotta colored. He's really a light brown that looks like it would've been orange if only he'd thought of it.
I was employed as an editor for twelve years and now I am teaching English at the local community college. I am looking for editing work, but today I applied for a job in a photo studio. I love to take pictures and I could learn a lot there. If I am destined to be a freelancer, I might as well have more than one set of skills, I guess.
The teaching is good, but there is no way I can do it full time at this particular college, and full-time college jobs in the area are less common than full-time editing.
So I figured that if Writer's Market lists all the publishers that print writing, I might as well use it to make contact with publishers regarding editing. A couple of months ago I tried this using the electronic contact info, but I got no responses at all. My next step should be to try paper correspondence. I haven't tried it yet. I could use whatever advice anyone cares to offer.
