I wish I had encouraging words. But from what I read, it is better to keep your job until you hit it big. I have heard of people who took that leap of faith and ended up with a six figure deal. I wouldn't do it. I also read that if you are making 20,000 a year from your writing, then you are doing a good job. I don't know if you can live off of so little.

Aside from ascertaining that you have enough money to leave work and write full time, you may want to reflect on whether or not you have the rock-hard discipline to be your own supervisor.

I retired a few years ago, and although I've done more writing than when I was working, my production is a fraction of what it should be, since my only time commitments these days are for doctor's appointments.

There is such a thing as having too much time.
